Ex- NFL Athlete Antonio Brown Files Not Guilty Plea in Murder Attempt Case
One-time NFL player Antonio Brown is traveling to Miami to confront an attempted murder charge stemming from a gunfire that took place in May, with his counsel filing a innocent declaration on his behalf.
Jail documents in Essex, New Jersey, show that Brown was discharged on Tuesday morning for his relocation to the state of Florida. Brown, among the most famous athletes in the NFL, had waived transfer to Florida from New Jersey, in which he was held after being taken into custody in the city of Dubai.
Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an message that he has already submitted a written not guilty declaration to the murder attempt accusation. Brown could be in a Miami hearing as early as Wednesday morning for a release hearing, Eiglarsh said.
As per his apprehension warrant, Brown is alleged of grabbing a pistol from a safety staffer after a celebrity fighting event in May and shooting a couple of shots at a person he had fought with before. The reported target, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to authorities that one of the bullets touched his throat.
Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was only protecting himself from Nantambu.
“The actions he was compelled to take were exclusively in defense against the alleged victim’s hostile actions. Brown was attacked that evening and behaved within his legal right to protect himself,” Eiglarsh stated.
Brown was not promptly detained because initially officers did not identify Nantambu as a target. It only later in May that Nantambu provided a full account about the situation to authorities and named Brown as the perpetrator, the affidavit says.
From his digital content, Brown had been residing in the city of Dubai for several period. In a post after the altercation, Brown said he was safeguarding himself because he was “jumped by several persons who attempted to steal my possessions and cause bodily injury to me.”
A level two murder attempt charge in Florida carries a highest 15-year jail term and up to a ten thousand dollar penalty in the instance of a guilty verdict.
Brown has encountered multiple judicial challenges over the time. He earlier had been charged of physical attack of a vehicle employee, several family violence charges, neglect to pay family payments and additional events.
In a recent game with his team against the New York Jets, Brown stripped off his jersey, shoulder pads and accessories and left the field, causing his release by the franchise and virtually concluding his NFL career.
Brown, who had a dozen years in the National Football League, was an elite player who spent most of his career with his team. For his professional life, Brown had 928 receptions for over 12,291 yards, the 28th greatest of record. He was a 7-time Pro Bowl choice.
